Commitment to Research and Education
Calgary Retina Consultants are dedicated to expanding knowledge within the field of ophthalmic medicine. Through Calgary Retina Consultants’ fellowship programme with the University of Calgary, future vitreoretinal surgeons are provided support and training for up to two-year periods. With close collaboration with the University of Calgary, each physician undertakes the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Calgary Retina Consultants hosts and organizes bi-monthly seminars. The Continuing Medical Education Retina Rounds are lead and attended by the retina faculty of the University of Calgary, ophthalmology residents, and students of the Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) program.
Since 2010, Calgary Retina Consultants organizes the Western Canada Retina Retreat, a 2-day scientific forum to discuss cutting edge innovations and treatment of vitreoretinal disorders. The programme draws vitreoretinal surgeons, ophthalmology residents, and fellows from across Western Canada. The Western Canada Retina Retreats hosts over 40 attendees and continues to grow each year.
By teaching future generations of vitreoretinal surgeons and sharing management techniques with practicing ophthalmologists, Calgary Retina Consultants are helping to ensure that knowledge and best practices continue forward.
