Dr. Femida Kherani

Femida Kherani grew up in Edmonton and completed her Medical School at the University of Alberta. Following her Surgical residency in Ophthalmology, she completed a Fellowship in Oculofacial Plastic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In Philadelphia, Dr. Kherani also worked at the University Centre for Human Appearance and taught UPenn Residents.

Dr. Kherani returned to Canada to work at the University of Calgary and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. She is A Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary. She loves to teach medical students and surgical residents. She has been at Invited Speaker at national and international Ophthalmology Conferences such as the World Congress, American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Hawaiian Eye Meeting.

Dr. Kherani is committed to providing excellence in medical care and is passionate about her profession. She has volunteered for surgical expeditions in India, Mexico and Pakistan with SEE International, Agakhan Foundation and Healing the Children. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). She is the founder of the Western Canada Chapter for Women In Ophthalmology (WIO) and is a Board Member for Women In Ophthalmology USA.

She is the Canadian Commissioner for International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personal of Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) and the Liaison Member for the Canadian Ophthalmology Society. She is an Oral Examiner for ASOPRS and teaches at the Osler Ophthalmology Course. She is on the Editorial Board for Ophthalmology Surgery News and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Eyenet Publications. She received The 2016 Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for her contribution. She loves her work and is committed to providing the best care for her patients.
